Wood composite – a modern and low-maintenance material for outdoor furniture
Today, outdoor furniture is increasingly demanding: it must withstand time, weather, and use – without continuous maintenance. That's why wood composite is now available as a new material option for Kuru and Combi table benches, combining the natural look of wood with the best aspects of modern material technology.
What is wood composite?
Wood Polymer Composite (WPC) is an innovative material that combines wood fibers and environmentally friendly thermoplastic polymer. The material has been used in North America for over 20 years, especially in outdoor applications, where its durability and ease of maintenance have proven their worth.
The composite material is also fully recyclable: all material generated during production can be reused, making it a responsible choice.
Durable and responsible choice
Approximately 70% of the raw materials in wood composite are wood fibers (pine and spruce), which are a byproduct of the wood processing industry. The remaining 30% consists of pure and environmentally friendly polymer.
The wood used in the material comes from certified sustainable forestry (PEFC), and no tropical wood species are used in the product. Several international certifications and tests support the material's quality, durability, and environmental friendliness.
Key benefits of composite
Maintenance-free saves time and costs
Composite does not require painting, oiling, or other regular surface treatments. This makes it a particularly cost-effective solution in the long run.
Smooth and splinter-free surface
The material's pleasant surface increases comfort and safety – especially in public spaces and for family use.
Durability in varying weather conditions
Composite withstands moisture, temperature fluctuations, and wear well. It has been tested for corrosion resistance according to standard DIN EN ISO 9227.
Easy to clean
Normal dirt and traces of use are easily removed with water and brushing. If necessary, a pressure washer (max. 80 bar) can also be used, making maintenance effortless.
Natural appearance – living surface
Due to its high wood content, the composite material behaves partly like natural wood. Over time, sunlight, moisture, and shading affect its tone, and the surface naturally becomes slightly duller.
This is not a defect, but part of the material's nature – every surface lives with its environment and acquires a unique appearance.
A long-lasting solution for a modern environment
Wood composite is an excellent choice when you want to combine:
- modern appearance
- low maintenance needs
- long lifespan
- responsible material choice
The composite versions of Kuru and Combi table benches offer a new, carefree alternative alongside traditional thermally treated pine – without compromising on durability or appearance.
