Maintenance of surface materials
Different surface materials require different types of maintenance and cleaning. We have compiled maintenance and recycling instructions suitable for various surfaces to make it easy and effortless for you to care for the products throughout their lifecycle.
Guarantee as security
Our products are designed and manufactured for demanding conditions. Lehtovuori products come with a 24-month warranty on materials, labor, and parts. Wooden surfaces, locks, hinges, and gas springs have a 12-month warranty.
METAL SURFACES
Cleaning metal surfaces
When cleaned regularly, metal surfaces are virtually everlasting. Powder-coated paintwork can be washed with water; for stainless steel, we recommend alkaline cleaning agents designed for it.
In particular, all surfaces exposed to sea or road salt should be cleaned regularly to prevent corrosion.
Stainless steel
Tools or abrasives made of iron or carbon steel should not be used for cleaning.
Stainless steel can be cleaned with an alkaline cleaning agent (pH over 8) designed for it.
Powder-coated metal surfaces
Powder-coated metal surfaces are a durable solution, but sometimes they can be damaged, for example, due to vandalism.
Remove rust by brushing or use sufficiently fine sandpaper. Prime the surface with, for example, zinc primer. Check the product's original paint color, use spray paint, and finish the surface with lacquer.
Touch-up painting of painted metal surfaces
For example, for touch-up painting of scratches on metal during installation and other use, we recommend an alkyd-based solvent-thinned paint. An example of such a paint is Teknos Teknolac Combi 50.
Scratches should be touch-up painted as soon as possible after they occur. Any surface rust should be sanded off and, if necessary, the substrate treated with a corrosion-protective zinc paint.
WOOD
Cleaning wood surfaces
Wood-surfaced products can be cleaned with water and, if necessary, a mild detergent. Painted products do not contain harmful substances, so you can wash them without worry, keeping the environment in mind.
Translucent-treated or oiled wood surface
Translucent-treated or oiled wood surfaces should be treated 1-2 times a year with a water-based translucent stain or oil suitable for the original surface. Furniture in heavy use and kept outdoors all year round requires more frequent maintenance, but wood surfaces protected from the weather can have a significantly longer maintenance interval.
Painted wooden surface
Solid-painted wooden surfaces should be repainted every few years, or at the latest, when the paint surface is worn and the wood is visible. Repainting should be done with a color shade that matches the original RAL color.
PRODUCT RECYCLING
Recycling metal parts - steel into new steel
Metal parts, such as all steel components, are almost endlessly recyclable. Recycled steel is used to produce new steel, which promotes the circular economy and reduces carbon dioxide emissions.
You can recycle all metal parts as metal waste.
Recycling wood components - from wood to energy
Treated wood (heat treated, painted, stained, varnished) can be recycled as wood waste, which can be utilized in energy production either by burning or chipping.
The recycling method for wood parts depends on the wood's surface treatment. Check the up-to-date recycling instructions from your local waste station!
Concrete Recycling - A Growing Trend
Concrete from concrete foundations and footings can be recycled as raw material for concrete production.
Crushed concrete can be utilized, for example, in the production of new concrete or in earthworks.
