HOW TO MAINTAIN WOOD SURFACES

Extend the lifespan with regular maintenance

Maintenance based on usage

Four seasons and high usage bring their own challenges to materials. However, wooden surfaces are easy to maintain and restore to an almost new appearance.

Wooden surfaces should be maintained at least once a year, and surfaces outdoors and under heavy use twice a year. Oiling is an easy and quick way to maintain untreated and previously oiled wooden surfaces. The translucent wooden surfaces of Lehtovuori's street furniture are treated with water-based furniture oil.

Before treatment

The wooden surface to be oiled must be completely clean and dry. Remove dirt and any old, flaking oil from the surface by brushing, sanding, or, if necessary, scraping.

Wash the wooden surfaces with a cleaner designed for them and rinse thoroughly. Allow to dry for at least 24 hours.

Clean and dry wood absorbs oil well.

Processing conditions

The right treatment conditions ensure a durable result. The room where the wood is being treated should have a temperature above +5°C and relative humidity below 80%. Avoid direct sunlight.

Ensure good ventilation and always treat wood in a space free of airborne dirt and dust.

Oil and Tools

The wooden parts of Lehtovuori street furniture are treated with water-based outdoor furniture oil. For best results, use a similar water-based oil.

Only use clean, dry brushes or sponges for oiling.

Oiling wood

Apply the oil in thin layers with a brush or sponge.

Systematically treat one surface at a time to ensure the most even result and prevent uneven build-up.

You can repeat the treatment if necessary if the wood surface is very dry. Wipe off any unabsorbed oil remaining on the surface with a clean, dry cloth.

Patience is a virtue

Wood surfaces should be allowed to dry for at least 24 hours in a sufficiently dry and warm space.
