Children’s artwork on CityPack 120 litter bins in Gothenburg, Sweden

In Kortedala, Gothenburg, children's ideas are being transformed into colorful CityPack 120 L litter bins. Custom decals bring children's art into the urban landscape and encourage people to keep their shared environment tidy.

From children's initiative to part of the urban space

During a field trip, children from the Aprilgatan 2B daycare noticed litter around a pond and became worried about the well-being of the ducks. An idea was born: could more cheerful-looking waste bins inspire people to put litter in the right place?

The children drew up plans and built scale models of them. With the help of their teachers, they invited city officials to explore their ideas. The initiative reached the city's urban environment administration, and four proposals were selected for implementation.

Love, flower, joy, and rainbow-themed illustrations were realized as decals on the surfaces of the CityPack 120 L waste bins. The bins are being placed around Kortedala as a reminder to care for the environment and to highlight children's ability to make an impact.

Custom decals make a waste bin part of its environment

The surfaces of the CityPack waste bin provide space for illustrations, colors, and messages. With decals, the appearance can be tailored to match, for example, the local aesthetic, a city or company brand, or a campaign encouraging cleanliness.

In Kortedala, the starting point was the children's own ideas. The end result is a set of personalized waste bins that bring joy to the shared urban space.
