MATERIALS MATTER
Finbin is known for its high quality. This quality is based on careful design and manufacturing, as well as carefully selected, market-leading materials. High-quality materials withstand use and retain their properties for longer. This means less maintenance and a longer service life, which is cost-effective in the long run.
Choosing durable and ecological materials also reduces environmental impact. High-quality materials are often recyclable, and their production considers ecological aspects. Steel is the primary raw material for our products because it is the most recycled material in the world. Steel can be recycled almost indefinitely without its properties changing. We are constantly working to reduce our ecological footprint.
All Finbin products are manufactured in our own factory in Ylöjärvi. Finbin products have a 24-month material and parts warranty. Wooden surfaces, locks, hinges, and gas springs have a 12-month warranty.
Finbin uses only high-quality materials because we want to guarantee our customers the best possible experience and product lifecycle. By investing in quality, we ensure that our products are safe, durable, beautiful, and environmentally friendly. This way, we can meet our customers' expectations and promote sustainable development.
METAL MATERIALS
The factors influencing metal selection vary depending on product and environmental requirements. Different metals are used for their specific properties, optimizing product performance, durability, and cost-effectiveness.
In addition to ordinary steel, Finbin products use durable galvannealed steel, structural steel,
hot-dip galvanized steel, stainless steel, as well as Marine Grade aluminum in Modul waste bin enclosures.
Marine Grade marine aluminum
All aluminum used in our products is Marine Grade EN AW 5754 marine aluminum. Marine Grade aluminum is a corrosion-resistant material that effectively resists chemical stresses caused by road salt and household waste.
The Modul product family's waste enclosures are primarily made of powder-coated Marine Grade marine aluminum.
Galvannealed-coated steel
Galvannealed steel offers first-class corrosion resistance and a durable paint finish even in demanding conditions. Paint adheres better to the finely rough surface than to a galvanized surface. For example, our City and Ellipse product families are made from galvannealed steel.
Thanks to their corrosion resistance, the products require less maintenance and retain their aesthetic appearance longer.
Magnelis®-coated steel
Magnelis® is a protective surface treatment for steel sheets, specially developed for challenging environmental conditions. It consists of a blend of zinc, aluminum, and magnesium, engineered to achieve excellent corrosion resistance. The high magnesium content enhances the surface's protective capability, providing up to three times better corrosion protection compared to galvanized steel. We manufacture the arches for CubiQ bicycle racks from Magnelis®-treated steel.
Stainless steel - SST
Stainless steel is highly resistant to corrosion, making it ideal for humid and harsh environments such as marine settings. Stainless steel is strong and highly resistant to mechanical wear, temperature fluctuations, and chemical substances. Its long lifespan reduces the need for repairs and replacements.
Stainless steel is a durable material, with different grades suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.
Outdoor Grade Stainless Steel: EN 1.4307 (AISI 304L) / 1.4301 (AISI 304)
Indoor Grade Stainless Steel: EN 1.4016 (AISI 430)
Structural steel
Structural steel is a hard, strong, and tough material. Its wear resistance, modulus of elasticity, and tensile strength are in a class of their own compared to, for example, aluminum profiles. For example, all finbin shelters are made of structural steel and treated with zinc primer to ensure maximum durability and corrosion resistance.
Steel
Steel is the main material in our products. Steel is the most recycled material in the world, with the advantage of almost endless recyclability without its properties changing.
Steel is very strong and highly resistant to mechanical wear.
WOOD MATERIAL AND TREATMENT
WOOD FROM CERTIFIED FORESTS
The wood we use is PEFC-certified, and some of it is also FSC-certified. The majority of the wood used in our products comes from certified Finnish forests. PEFC certification indicates that forests are managed responsibly and sustainably. Our primary wood material is pine.
GREEN MATERIAL
GREEN ROOFS FOR CANOPIES
A Finnish green roof is available as an accessory for Finbin shelters. A living green roof is a small climate action that offers numerous benefits. A green roof stores water in the sedum vegetation, which reduces the water load on the roof. A green roof binds 50–80% of rainfall.
The material used for the green roof is a sedum mat, containing 8–15 different sedum species or their subspecies and varieties. The Finnish Nordic Green Roof™ green roof is fire-certified (NT-PALO 006).

Bending is an essential part of metalworking, where metal sheets are bent to the desired angle and shape. The process is crucial in the manufacturing of many products and requires precision and efficiency.
ToolMaster's automatic tool changing system enables quick and accurate tool changes. This significantly saves time and reduces the need for manual adjustments, especially in small batches.
WELDING
WELDING
Welding is one of the most crucial manufacturing methods in the metal industry, used to join metal parts by melting them together.
Finbin's welding department is divided into four stations: Solar station (CitySolar smart compacting bin), Finbin station (litter and recycling bins), PT station (bike racks, benches, and tables), and Shelter station (bike and bus shelters).
The welding process requires high professional skill and precision, as even small errors can weaken the strength and durability of the joint. Welding workers must master various welding methods and the behavior of materials at high temperatures.
Finbin's welding department also features an innovative heating system where heat generated from welding is directed to heat the factory building. This energy-efficient solution reduces the factory's energy costs and environmental impact by reusing the heat produced during welding.
SURFACE PAINTING
PAINTED SURFACES
Powder coating is a multi-stage process, beginning with thorough cleaning and pre-treatment. This is followed by zinc primer application, from which the process continues to the electrostatic application of powder. The coating concludes with the melting and curing of the powder in an automatic oven. This method ensures a durable and high-quality coating that meets stringent C5-M corrosion protection requirements.
1. Pre-treatment and Cleaning
Before the powder coating application, the products undergo a thorough cleaning and pretreatment process that removes grease from the surface and improves paint adhesion and corrosion resistance.
2. Zinc Primer
Before the actual powder coating, the products are treated with a zinc primer. The zinc primer significantly improves the durability of the metal surface and serves as an excellent adhesion layer for the powder coating.
3. Powder Coating
The powder is electrostatically applied to the product's surface through sophisticated nozzles. The powder becomes electrically charged, which helps it adhere to the product's surface evenly and effectively.
4. Melting and hardening
After powder application, the products are transferred to an automatic curing oven. In the oven, the powder is melted, forming a solid, uniform paint layer on the surface of the object.
After this, the powder cures and achieves its final shape and durability.
